Hi – I go by Pu. My work has taken me through waist-deep floodwater, migration paths in the Americas and into homes of storied families across the continent. My journalism career kicked off as a staff photographer, and eventually managing editor, at the Daily Texan, the student newspaper of the University of Texas at Austin. In college, I complimented my journalism with a degree in anthropology, which took me on a deep dive exploring why people are the way they are. That knowledge guides my photography today. When not working on assignments, I am exploring projects on migration, identity, and culture

Multi-media journalist. One man band. I started off as a part-time PA, mainly working in Computer Graphics / Audio Technician / Camera Operator roles in news production for three daily newscasts for KLDO/KXOF in Laredo, Texas. After a few months, I was promoted to full-time multimedia journalist covering international border issues such as the shooting of a Department of Homeland Security helicopter near the Rio Grande River. Afterwards, I joined the team at KGNS, also from Laredo, Texas, as a multimedia journalist. I was part of a team of reporters and producers that covered the fatal bus accident off US-83 in the Spring of 2016. I'm currently a freelancer in the Austin area.

I am a midlife adventurer and writer. I am an avid scuba diver, underwater photographer, citizen scientist, amateur historian; interested in all people and cultures. For me, the unexpected is usually the norm! I take part in Citizen Science and have done several trips to ID whale sharks, manta rays, and other pelagics. I love to write about these experiences, and to review companies engaged in travel or volunteer tourism. Hotels, dive companies, airlines, restaurants...I enjoy all manner of travel related reviews and stories. I'm always up for a new challenge! I blog for The Huffington Post as well as several other online magazines.

Being a part of the human connection that media can bridge has been an endless quest of my career. Richard Leacock has suggested, "We are really only successful in finding out anything when we are filming somebody who is more concerned with what he is doing that with the fact that we care filming him." I absolutely agree with this idea, and I became obsessed with capturing moments of genuine authenticity that rarely brush the viewfinder. After 20 years behind the lens all I know is, I love my job; I like meeting new people, and I enjoy going to new places.
