Drilling Through Danger: The story of Matt Smith
Carl and Debbie Smith know about life and loss working in the oil and gas industry. Carl spent his entire career working on drilling sites. But on a cold day in November, 2014, their son Matt was killed working on a rig. In a 12-year span, an oil and gas worker died once every three months on average in Colorado, victims of a system focused more on protecting the industry than its employees.
