Whistle is a flagship artwork of the Great Exhibition of the North 2018 (getnorth2018.com). Artist Steve Messam created a wall of sound around the old medieval walls of Newcastle upon Tyne. Every day for 88 days the whistle sounded on the stroke of 1pm bringing back the sound of steam trains and shipyard whistles to Newcastle and Gateshead. This film maps the project from concept to installation.
Artist Anita Taylor has drawing at the heart of everything she does. We go inside the artist's studio to see her at work and to find out what inspires her. This film shows her preparing for a major exhibition at The Customs House Gallery in South Shields, curated by Esen Kaya.
