Her commercial work has won several awards including an Emmy™. Blending a background of experience both in the commercial and independent film space, she specializes in narrative-forward, live action work. In addition to writing & directing, Lael’s practical SFX design work is featured in the short film Dream Creep, which premiered at Sundance and played SXSW. She teaches at Cornish College of the Arts.

The lead singer of a Seattle punk band struggles to keep it together when her performance anxiety takes an unexpected form. Directed and co-written by Lael Rogers, The Claw was commissioned by Visit Seattle and Film Independent to promote the city of Seattle. The film was featured by Rolling Stone, received a Vimeo Staff Pick, and played film festivals internationally.
Devesh V. Tripathi was the winner of Bing’s Photo Contest, and Microsoft in partnership with Bing was interested in profiling him and his work. After constructing a script inspired by pre-interviews with Devesh, Lael headed out to Death Valley, Nevada — the location of Devesh’s next photo project — to show him in action. Co-written and directed by Lael, SHRAPNEL: Solitarius Lupus is a short film commissioned by video game company NEON MACHINE to tease the world-building of SHRAPNEL, an "intensely competitive AAA action shooter" video game still in development. The short marks the first live action installation in the world of SHRAPNEL. In addition to its online life, the film played at film festivals internationally.
A music documentary commissioned by the National Film Festival for Talented Youth and Sasquatch, this film follows the band Thunderpussy as they prepare, travel to, and play at one of Washington's premiere music festivals.
Nordstrom had developed a following through their YouTube channel creating how-to videos with their high-end (and high price point) stylists. But an untapped market remained unreached in their Rack customers. With Nordstrom, Lael developed and directed a more casual, fun (& repeatable!) How-To series that felt accessible & fun for the younger, and more bargain-minded demographic.
