I'm an accomplished writer, editor, and filmmaker, and I've also puttered in podcasts, data journalism, and infographic production. My real love is telling a human story; I'm at my best when I can connect the dots between technical information (data, policy, issues) and a human angle. I've written and produced media about topics ranging from energy policy to food to transportation to water to economic development and more. I shot interview, directed photography, and edited and produced this (one in a series of three) video profiling participants in Capital Impact Partners' Equitable Development Initiative. The program mentors minority developers in the City of Detroit.
This 30-minute documentary film focuses on efforts in the USA and Sicily to preserve the Sicilian language. While shooting in places as disparate as Catania, Sicily, Detroit, Michigan, and Independence, Louisiana, we met inspiring Sicilians and Sicilian Americans using language to reconnect with their roots. This film was funded as part of the Russo Brothers Italian American Film Forum.
I shot, edited, and produced this video as part of a "Detroit Minute Docs" video series profiling people making a difference in the Metro Detroit community for Model D Media.
Hereos to Hives is a community development program for veterans.
A century ago Sicilian immigrants came to Detroit with a recipe for sfinciuni, a square pizza made with leftover bread dough, cheese, tomato sauce and anchovies. Over the years that recipe has evolved into what is now known as Detroit-style square pizza.
