Request QuoteWhen I first picked up a camera, I could've never imagined the power this tool wields. It has become my passport to other places, cultures, peoples, and the stories I've been fortunate to share. Effective visual storytelling allows us to learn about the world through first hand accounts, frame by frame. I am a Cuban-American visual storyteller from Miami, FL. I graduated from Syracuse University where I double-majored in photojournalism and international relations with a focus in the international political economy of Latin America and the Caribbean. I am passionate about telling stories visually and I am specifically interested in narratives that relate to sports and culture. I intend for my work to bring attention to specific issues and help promote positive change. My work has received awards in the College Photographer of the Year competition and has been recognized in various NPPA contests. During the summer of 2017, I interned with the Miami Herald. In 2018, I attended the prestigious Eddie Adams Photojournalism Workshop (XXXI). I am currently a Roy H. Park fellow at the University of North Carolina (UNC) - Chapel Hill where I am completing a master's degree in visual communications. During the summer of 2019, I will be the photo/video intern for the News & Observer newspaper in Raleigh, North Carolina. I am currently based out of Miami, FL and I am available for photo and video assignments.

“The scariest part, is that you’re walking into the unknown.” In January, I started filming Ryan “Third Street Savage” Kuse’s journey as he pursued his goal of making it to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The path of an amateur MMA fighter has many obstacles, many of which, are out of their control. From the time they decide to become a fighter, to when they sign up for their next fight, to when they step in the ring, there is always the ‘unknown.’ Despite this, Ryan is resolute in accomplishing his dream and becoming the best fighter he can be.
This short doc produced documents the 1898 coup d'etat in Wilmington where a mob of 2,000 white men expelled black and white political leaders and killed dozens of people. Vox is producing a new series called “Missing Chapter,” that tells stories that often don’t make it into our history books. I was given the opportunity to film this first episode.
Most Venezuelans who have the fortune of making it to Colombia find the things that they lack in their home country: food, safety, employment and the list goes on. But sometimes, even when life’s basic necessities are fulfilled, you can still feel a void. This is the story of how an immigrant from Caracas filled his void through sport—and helped dozens of other Venezuelans fill theirs too.
‘Eu Sambo Diferente’ is the name of one of the singles in his debut EP and you can definitely feel it in his music. Caique Vidal, a native of Salvador da Bahia, is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and music educator. He stays true to his Afro-Brazilian roots by creating samba-reggae music, which is also a way of staying connected to home despite being 3,000 miles away.
