When the Talban took control of the Afghan government in August of 2021, Shiba Walizada and Parastoo Mehrzad and many other women waited at the Kabul airport for three days, not knowing whether or not they would be allowed to leave their country. In December of that year, Arizona State University and the local business community were responsible for the safe transit of 61 Afghan refugee women to Arizona where they now have the opportunity to continue their higher education dreams.
Jaclyn's father left their family at an early age and shortly after, they were homeless. Though her family faced immense challenges, Jaclyn's mom always emphasized education, keeping her enrolled in school. When she graduated high school, Jaclyn received a scholarship from Phoenix College and now pays it forward as a high school counselor.
“Transfarming Switzerland” follows Sarah Heiligtag, a woman from Switzerland helping transform animal farms into vegan farms and sanctuaries by working directly with farmers who seek a different relationship with animals.
