Days before Trump took office, Witness Against Torture entered Trump’s Washington, DC hotel to ask him to finish the job Obama started: close the Guantánamo Bay detention center. I shot, wrote, and edited this short video for social media, publishing it in under 24 hours to coincide with the organization's press release.
While working for Witness Against Torture, I visited Washington, DC for Donald Trump’s inauguration, filming the clash between protesters and Trump supporters. A new president with a drastically different way of handling things calls for a brand new approach. This video mixes footage I shot at the inauguration with facts about Guantánamo’s costs to taxpayers and national security.
The most common argument against closing Guantánamo is that the men inside are all dangerous. In this brief educational video designed for Witness Against Torture's social media, I examine the origins of that belief and counter it with what we’ve learned in the 15 years since Guantánamo’s opening.
As Witness Against Torture reached end of eight years directing protests toward Obama to close Guantánamo, the group recapped some of the worst moments prisoners experienced at the infamous detention center. I helped structure the presentation, and then filmed this video during a live performance at Union Station in Washington, DC to help amplify the work on social media.
In the wake of 9/11, the FBI and INS detained hundreds of men as terrorism suspects based on little information other than their nationality, religion, and immigration status. One of them is CCR client Benamar Benatta, who appears in this video. I shot, wrote, directed, and edited this social media video for CCR with a turnaround time of 48 hours to help explain the case to the public.
Witness Against Torture commissioned me to produce a video based on their public demonstrations against the US military base at Guantánamo Bay. This video captures a public reading of Guantánamo detainee Mohammed al-Hamiri's words at the White House.
