I've covered how Americans living in Mexico viewed the 2016 election, annual bi national summits where borderland politicians and business leaders discuss the future of our region (more important during NAFTA renegotiations), and the Hugs Not Walls events where families saw each other on the riverbed for the first time in years (including the first event under the Trump administration). Outside my regular region I've also covered the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Maria. For the latter I was the only broadcast journalist embedded with the military, publish work for the BBC World Service and Reuters.

Julio is an ideal fixer. He’s a well-rounded local journalist with connections in and around both El Paso and Ciudad Juarez. He has an incredibly amiable personality and can point others in the right direction when it comes to stories and local food recommendations. Would definitely work with Julio again if given the opportunity.

A family from the central Mexico fleeing death threats was turned away at the border by CBP when they asked to claim asylum. Now the family is waiting in Juarez while they wait to be allowed to the US and escape the violence that forced them to abandon their land.
Stranded animals became a big problem after Hurricane Harvey flooded the Houston area. A veterinarian and a farrier worked together to treat horses sick and wounded after days of standing int heir flooded barns.
After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico many patients had no way to reach their doctors. One family had a small boy who had a stroke before the hurricane and needed treatment. They turned to the US military, who were the only ones able to airlift the boy to San Juan hospitals. The fast pace these soldiers work in makes documenting stories difficult, but experience helps cover these events.

As the US military was called in to help Puerto RIco after Hurricane Maria, US Army soldiers loaded food and water into their helicopters and delivered these emergency goods to isolated communities on the island. For many villagers these soldiers would be their first contact with the outside world in the weeks since the hurricane. For some soldiers it was a bittersweet homecoming.
