Berber Verpoest is a journalist and documentary filmmaker with over 10 years of experience. His work has appeared on VRT, VICE, De Correspondent, De Standaard, AJ+, MO, Apache, NPO1, and Al Arabiya, among others. He combines in-depth investigative work with powerful human stories.
Berber has collected stories in Europe, Africa, Central Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. He delves into various political and socio-economic themes, from climate and education to human rights.
Berber films, edits, writes and researches. He realizes solo productions from A to Z but also enjoys working in teams. From 2015 to 2019 he was a lecturer in (video) journalism and storytelling at the Artevelde College University in Ghent. Today he concentrates entirely on his own work.
In 2010 he won the prestigious De Loep, for young investigative journalists. For the documentary Home he received the Emerging Director Award of the Al Ard Film Festival in 2017. His documentary Beyond The Wall was a finalist at the Dig Awards Film Festival in 2016.
He lives in Ghent, Belgium.
