Jen leads Communications with a focus on storytelling in service of Arnold Ventures’ mission, managing a team responsible for strategic and advocacy communications, digital communications and publications, media relations, brand management and content creation. 

Jen came to Arnold Ventures from Starbucks Coffee Company, where she was Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Starbucks Stories. Prior to that, she was Vice President of Communications and Marketing at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, overseeing all of Fred Hutch’s external and internal communications, marketing, branding and government relations. Those roles came after a career as a journalist, most recently as Vice President/General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of NBC News Digital (formerly msnbc.com). She has held news executive positions at metropolitan newspapers including the Houston Chronicle, Seattle Post-Intelligencer and Rochester (N.Y.) Democrat and Chronicle. She is active in industry and non-profit organizations, currently serving on the Accrediting Council on Education in Journalism and Mass Communications and on the board of the Pacific Northwest Research Institute.

Jen has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Washington, a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., and a master’s in business administration from the University of Washington.

A full-time pro since 2001, John Nova Lomax has worked at the Houston Press and Texas Monthly. After beginning his career in music journalism, Lomax has expanded into culture, crime, food, history, politics, and travel. Few journalists alive know the nooks and crannies of Houston's vastness as Lomax, whose work has appeared in the New York Times, Vice, the Houston Chronicle, the Village Voice, and Spin. Among many other accolades, Lomax was honored at the Lincoln Center as a winner of an ASCAP-Deems Taylor music journalism award.
