About
Experienced freelance video-journalist and documentary maker. 'Self-Shooting' cameraman, director, producer and editor with strong script-writing skills. Recently returned to my native London after 15 years as a journalist in Latin America and the United States. I was a Reuters general news and economics correspondent for seven years in Guatemala, Mexico and New York. I became a freelance documentary maker in 2007, working mostly in Mexico and Central America pitching and producing my own stories and working mostly as a one-man-band. My subjects have included drug-trafficking, economics and culture, but my favourite stories are 'people' stories that delve into the human drama and emotion behind the headlines. My work has ranged from short-form web mini-docs for outlets like New York Times video to major documentaries and news features for channels including Al Jazeera English, Channel 4 UK and PBS. Latin America forged me as a journalist. Now I want to turn my documentary-maker's lens to issues like migration and poverty in my own country, the UK, as well as branching out into Asia and Africa.
