Over the previous 15 years I’ve had the privilege of working on a huge variety of projects, from international advertising campaigns, online content, through to award winning feature films and TV series. When I reflect on this content I’ve created, what stands out as being memorable and aspirational, is the quality and substance of the ‘story’. So I take great care to find the sense and purpose of a story, the flow and rhythm of the narrative and their relationship with the visual choices in how they can hold a viewer's attention.
While I have been involved with all types of content creation ranging from TVCs through to long form documentaries, I don’t have a preference, I just love the challenges of creating content that sticks with a viewer. Where I believe I am different compared with my fellow editors is that I like to spend time in the shadows between sound and vision. I believe that well crafted stories combined with carefully selected vision can take a story so far, but they can be taken further by pushing the interplay of the visuals within the sonic landscape. This subtle extra attention makes for a more complete viewer experience.
