One of the most produced and consumed fish in Brazil is now part of the burn treatment. Three and a half years ago, researchers at the hospital Instituto Dr. José Frota, in Fortaleza, began developing a dressing using tilapia skin to improve the healing of burns. Currently 58 patients are volunteers in the research but the treatment will be expanded to reach 100 people.
Brazilian electrician Glauber Pereira has already made more than 2,400 units of wheelchairs for dogs and cats that have been sent to various cities in the country. Glauber does not profit from the design and charges just what he spends on materials used. Today, he counts on the help of a cousin to make the chairs and makes three to four units a day.
