He has worked on all genres of film-making from documentary and narrative drama through to TVC and Corporate projects. In recent years, Lau has focused his attention on high-end productions for international broadcasters including National Geographic, Discovery Channel, 3net, BBC, Lonely Planet TV, Al Jazeera and History Channel. Highlights include a 3D documentary filming the training of the renowned Shaolin monks, several episodes of Megastructures, Man Made Marvels, Hidden Cities Asia and Lonely Planet, and four episodes for National Geographic’s Access 360 where he was nominated for his work in the Turkish landscape of Cappadocia for the Asian Television Awards. China From Above, a co-production between CICC, BHP, NGCI & NHNZ attracted 130 million online viewers & garnered Lau an “Highly Commended” award for Cinematography at the 21st Asian TV Awards. More recently, Lau has set the tone as Director of Photography for National Geographic’s series Nazi World War Weird, uncovering the history of bizarre Nazi wartime practices, as well as lending his visuals to NGC’s Maritime Silk Route, about China’s One Belt, One Road initiative.
