6 reviewsI am a multilingual journalist with over three decades of experience. I write in Sindhi, Urdu, English and Punjabi languages. I worked previously as a correspondent for BBC Urdu for 10 years based in New York City. I worked as a reporter, columnist, and their first ever blogger. I have also written regular blogs for Deutsche Welle Urdu. I have been a columnist in Pakistan's largest circulated Urdu daily 'Jang' newspaper. I worked as senior reporter for English monthly Newsline in Karachi, Pakistan for 10 years. I have also worked as a reporter for English dailies 'The Muslim' Islamabad, and 'Frontier Post.' My columns and articles have also frequently appeared in the 'News On Sunday,' 'Thursday Review of the Dawn,' 'Daily 'Times', Lahore, 'Himal Magazine South Asian , Kathmandu, Nepal. My ground breaking works on LGBTQI and sex workers in South Asia are included in two books; 'Islamic Homo sexualities Culture, History and Literature' published by New York University Press,1997, and "Fallen Angles: Sex Workers in South Asia" Published by Rolli Publisher, Delhi 2001. I have been editor for "Sindhi daily 'Qhalq' and a correspondent and columnist for "Sindhi daily 'Barsat' in Islamabad". I also worked for numerous other Sindhi newspapers such as 'Kawish', 'Pehnji Akhbar', and 'Ibrat.' I have been a regular writer for Punjabi language Website wichar.com. My other published work includes English translations of 18th century Sindhi poet, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai in book form titled 'Catching a Glimpse of Beloved' published in 2015. I have written a book of my Sindhi poetry titled "Guldan Ja Qaidi Gulab". I have also published two books of my Urdu and Punjabi poetry. My forthcoming book is a collection of my BBC Urdu columns (2003-2014) entitled "Phir Wohi Train". I am also a recipient of the Excellence in International journalism Award from Johns Hopkins university. Other awards include All Pakistan newspaper society (APNS), and Kodikara award from Regional center for strategic studies in Sri Lanka. I am also a recipient of fellowships such as Hellman/Hammett grants from Human Rights Watch, Europeans Union, SIDA Norway, and PANOS South Asia awards. Currently, I work as a freelance writer for 'Naya Duar Urdu', 'The Friday Times' and "Dissent Today.' Human interest Stories and the concerning human rights have been my forte throughout my career. I am also renowned in South Asian literary circles as a multilingual poet and writer. In addition; I have written Urdu and Punjabi songs/lyrics for Pakistani Urdu films and numerous plays including a BBC Urdu radio play. I also worked as researcher in documentaries for BBC Urdu and for scholars on South Asia. I worked as translator for a documentary aired on PBS.
