I have over 10 years experience as a producer, writer, director, cinematographer, editor and photographer. After 10 years working globally as a freelance photojournalist, Travis Beard first visited Afghanistan in November 2001, where he contracted the ‘so called’ Afghan Bug. He subsequently moved to Kabul permanently in 2006 where he taught at the country’s first media school – AINA. He went onto co-found a skateboard school – Skateistan; that won an Oscar for best short documentary in 2019. Under Travis’ company Argus he also co-founded a street art school – Wallords and the country’s first contemporary music & arts festival – Sound Central Festival 2011 – 2013. Travis’ debut feature documentary, ROCKABUL focused on the music scene in Afghanistan told through the perspective of the Afghan band, District Unknown, had its World Premiere at the prestigious Rotterdam International Film Festival 2018. It has since screen at 49 festivals around the world and won multiple awards. Travis was a camera operator in production of KABUL AT WORK (2013), FRAME BY FRAME (2015) and AFGHAN CYCLES (2017). Travis also contributed to post-production on MOTELY'S LAW (2015), JIRGA (2018) Travis is currently co-producing a film about metal bands in the conservative society of South Korea called “K-POP KILLERS”. As well as working on his second feature film COGS OF WAR and is has 3 other films in development focused around subject mater from North Korea, CoVid19 and Sustainable Vegan Lifestyle in Tasmania. He is currently writing his first book about his motorcycle touring in Afghanistan entitled: The Bullet is faster than the Bike. Travis also has two music band projects Major Delay in Melbourne and PPP in Europe. Both are releasing material this year. He was also accepted into a music residency voyage in the Arctic Circle for 2020

My most memorable work experiences would be visiting an emu farm in rural Victoria, travelling to the Kimberley Region in Western Australia to shoot pink diamonds, going in search of crocodiles in northern Queensland, trying to avoid crocodiles in the Northern Territory and chasing seal at a salmon farm south of Tasmania.

I was Australia's first professional VJ (Aug 1996) and have subsequently worked in 30 countries for many major world broadcasters. My work, filmed/written/edited/presented has been bought by many of the world's major broadcasters, including CNN (Inside Europe & Africa); BBC World, APTN, TV Globo, Asahi, TVNZ, Dubai TV, SABC, all Australian broadcasters and many more.
