I am an expeditionary multi-media producer for news, commercial, government and non-profit organizations. I often do one-man-band hybrid projects where I produce, shoot and edit finished content for clients. Run-and-gun, studio chroma, aerial footage (FAA 107 licensed), I do it all with a strong visual sense derived from years of photography. I also provide animated graphics as often required by my data-heavy client projects. Funding agencies for my work include: Rockefeller Family Foundation, Chevron, FEMA, and USAID. Featured on the Discovery and Al Jazeera and has been recognized by the BBC for innovation. I love the challenge of international assignments and meeting new people. While I prefer to be over-prepared for any job, I also enjoy traveling light - high production quality video, stills, audio, and aerial with carry-on luggage. I have over thirty years of video production and news experience in Hawaii and the San Francisco Bay Area. I am an experienced videographer, editor, interviewer, writer and producer with strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. I am an Emmy Award winning freelance filmmaker/creative from the Hawaiian island of Molokai. With a BFA in Film Production from Chapman University, I have been working in the film/TV industry since 2001 and have developed a full range of skills in all aspects of production including: concept & story development, writing, directing, producing, shooting, editing, and media campaign strategy. I have unique expertise working with island-based communities, cultures, and environments and have dedicated the focus of my filmmaking to telling Hawaii’s stories through a local lens. I have held key roles (producer, director, DP, editor) in documentary productions that have received national and international broadcast on networks including PBS National and Arte France. Many of my feature and short documentaries have screened and won awards at film festivals around the world. Since 2016, I have also been working on national and international projects focusing on themes of environment and culture including profile pieces for Emmy Award winning series "The New Environmentalists" narrated by Robert Redford and Sigourney Weaver. I have served in various roles (DP, 2nd camera, field producer, fixer, etc.) for location productions for a diverse list of clients from the BBC, Travel Channel, History Channel, Arte Germany, etc. In my personal life, I am a passionate surfer, fisherman, soccer coach, community volunteer, and family man who cares deeply about humanity and our planet.

Justyn Ah Chong is a Native Hawaiian filmmaker from Mililani, Hawaiʻi. After graduating from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in 2011, Justyn worked as a cinematographer and editor at ʻŌiwi Television Network - Hawaii's premiere Indigenous broadcast station. In 2019 his narrative short DOWN ON THE SIDEWALK IN WAIKĪKĪ premiered at the Maoriland Film Festival in New Zealand and shared the People’s Choice Award for Best Short Drama before continuing on to screen at 20+ festivals around the world and winning several other awards. Most recently, Justyn was a producer on the George Helm narrative bio-pic, HAWAIIAN SOUL (2020), which premiered at the 2020 Hawaii International Film Festival and won best Made in Hawaii Short and an Audience Award. He's currently producing Kekama Amona's narrative short film, E MĀLAMA PONO WILLY BOY, and is in pre-production for his second directorial narrative short, THE MAN AND THE TREE. In collaboration with Nia Tero and Upstander Project, Justyn is one of six indigenous filmmakers working on a collaborative documentary film called the RECIPROCITY PROJECT, currently in post-production. Concurrently, Justyn continues to create culturally-inspired, place-based stories on a work-for-hire basis through his production company, Olonā Media.
