Before moving back to his native country of Rwanda, Philippe was based in Toronto, Canada as a freelance photographer where he had spent 10 years studying and working. Having had his work featured in local magazines, shooting portraits, covering many fashion shows, and working with a few renowned photographers in Toronto’s high-end fashion industry, Philippe decided to relocate to Rwanda to rediscover his country, his continent, and to contribute to an ever-growing creative industry. As Co-Founder and Director of Photography for Illume Creative Studio, Philippe has taken the role of expanding 
the video and photography aspect of the business while pushing the art of photography to new levels. His work has taken him around the world and provided 
him with the opportunity to visually translate projects into great visual content. Philippe’s first publication, ‘This is Rwanda’, is only the beginning of what he hopes is a lifelong journey of discovering and rediscovering Rwanda and having the world fall in love with the country through his photography.

I am a storyteller at heart, born in Burundi, raised in Rwanda and Canada. My journey in film and television began after completing a program at the Toronto Film School. I've worked in Toronto on short and feature films, music videos, commercials, and documentaries before returning to Rwanda. In Rwanda, I've worn multiple hats—from leading a team at the Rwanda Broadcasting Agency to co-creating Journal.rw, a platform celebrating African content. In 2017, I founded Isonga Media, focusing on impactful documentaries, television programming, and digital marketing.
