10 reviewsJihan Hafiz is an Egyptian, Samoan born in California and raised between Cairo and Washington, D.C. Her life’s work as a filmmaker and journalist span world events from the Egyptian Revolution, wars in Libya and Palestine, borders and immigration, to Indigenous and Black uprisings across the United States and Latin America, elections and womens rights. She’s won multiple awards for her work in visual storytelling, including an Emmy (2013), the NABJ award (2015), two Bronze Telly Awards, Indigenous Music Awards Best Music video and nominated for the Rory Peck and Livingston Awards. Her films have screened at film festivals across the world and aired on international and national networks. Over the past decade, Jihan has worked as a television reporter, international news anchor, film and news producer, director, cinematographer, on-air talent, field reporter, investigator, and content creator. She works as both a one-woman-band and with major crews of up to 50 crew members, in some cases assisting production crews with moving film equipment and members across international borders. Jihan is a proud member and founder of GenderWars – an internationals women’s collective dedicated to participating in self-defense against deadly sexual assault. Once upon a time based in Cairo, Brussels, Madrid, Havana and Salvador da Bahia, Jihan is a journalism mentor, former dance professor, and trilingual in Arabic, English and Portuguese. She is currently based out of New Orleans in the bayou state of Louisiana.
