I`m Gaby de Saboya, German by birth and Brazilian by citizenship. I love my work as a journalist, filmmaker, and actress. My academic training has also been multidisciplinary and through it Ive also gained much experience in the areas of art, culture, and community activities. My academic curriculum includes a Master degree in Theater, Post Graduate degree in TV Journalism, Graduate courses in Journalism. Right now I work as an anchorwoman and TV reporter at Rio TV Camara. As a director I worked in documentaries for the Seminar 40 Years of 68 and the Long Documentary Carnival, Funk and Umbrella, exhibited in Brazil and Italy. I am a screenwriter and audiovisual producer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I speak three languages fluently (Portuguese, English and Spanish) and I have been creating content in the filmmaking and television industry for over ten years now. Kiratiana is a JABE—Journalist, Author, Blogger and Entrepreneur. After graduating cum laude from Harvard University and winning the John Finley travel fellowship, she embarked upon a year-long round the world trip that changed her life. After a year as a community journalist in Chicago, she moved to Paris, taught English to French 12-year-old kids and started a blog. That blog became “Kiratiana’s Travel Guide to Black Paris,” a book she published in 2010. She then entered the field of digital marketing, working on the Olympic Games, American Airlines and Goodnites underwear brands. I am a freelance correspondent and fixer Latin America, based in Rio de Janeiro since July 2013. Before that I lived and worked as a journalist in Colombia from October 2002 till July 2013. Things I know a lot about are: the conflict and peacetalks in Colombia, the political and economic crisis in Venezuela, daily life in Rio, women's issues in Latin America, the Panama and Nicaragua Canal, and the economic woes here in Brazil, just to mention some examples. Dutch is my native tongue, but I express myself quite well in English and Spanish. My Portuguese is improving a lot. Rio de Janeiro still exists after the Olympics Games! One of the legacies of the Games is the improvement of the city's port area, the area where I'm living. In the colonial era Rio received more than a million slaves from Africa here. Their grandgrandchildren are still living in this area, that is also called Little Africa. Their black pride is increasing and this is one of the most interesting things that is happening in Rio at the moment. Racism has been considered a non issue in Brazil for a long time, but the ugly truth is that it is as strong as elsewhere in the world. In my neighborhood I want to research how blacks are dealing with this, what their answers are. If you're interested, you can contact me for interviews, reports, features, whatever you need.
