Elyor Nematov was born in Bukhara, Uzbekistan currently works as a freelance photojournalist. His works have been published in The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph, LE MONDE Magazine, Discovery Channel, HBO sports channel, THE DIPLOMAT etc. He has participated in many national and international photo contests, exhibitions, and film festivals around the world and has conducted documentary photography workshops in collaboration with NOOR&NIKON and OSF in the USA, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. Previously, he worked as a photo editor and as a photographer and reporter for business and sports magazines in Russia, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. His first personal project and book "Children of Bukhara" was presented in Tashkent in 2008. In 2012, Elyor received a grant from the Open Society Foundation’s Documentary Photography Project and started his project about Labour Migration From Central Asia. Yuri Kozyrev was the mentor of his project. The project was named “I AM A FOREIGNER”.
In 2013 was a finalist of the Audience Engagement Grant from OSI Foundations. In 2014-2015 Getty Images Reportage Emerging Talents program member. From 2015 became a Contributor for Getty Images. In 2015 published Father Comes Tomorrow project. The second chapter of the Labour Migration From Central Asia to Russia. Recently done the project for UNwomen: – "MY NAME IS WOMAN" – gender equality and women’s right in Kyrgyzstan. Currently working on a new project in California, San Diego, and teaching course on documentary photography in collaboration with Noor&NIKON and OSF in Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
