I am a journalist. Since 1999, I have worked as a correspondent and editor on such Russian channels as ORT (Russian Public Television), NTV, TV Center ... In 2014, I was fired from the position of presenter and editor of the program on the OTR channel (Russian Public Television ). The reason for the dismissal was that I expressed an opinion on my page on social networks that did not coincide with the opinion of the country's political leadership. After that, I became a freelance journalist, and soon mastered a number of other related television professions. Franz J. Marty is a freelance journalist and Fellow of the Swiss Institute for Global Affairs. Since September 2023, he is based in Tbilisi, Georgia, from where he covers the wider Caucasus region and also keeps an eye on Afghanistan. Between 2014 and 2023, including during the Taliban’s overthrow of the Afghan Republic in August 2021, Franz J. Marty lived and worked in Afghanistan. His work in Afghanistan included exclusive interviews with Taliban and members of the self-declared Islamic State, embeds, as well as unaccompanied investigative reporting from various, at times remote and hostile corners of the country. His articles have been published by, amongst others, the Swiss Institute for Global Affairs, The Diplomat, Inkstick, The Afghanistan Analysts Network, and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung.
