Request QuoteHi, I'm Chris Layhe, a native of Cheshire in the UK, but US based for the past 20 years. I started out life as a documentary director and editor at the BBC in London, before creating my own UK company to allow me to expand into the DP and editor roles on film, broadcast and corporate projects. Today I'm San Francisco based and I concentrate more on DP, editor and colorist work - using this synergy to get the most from any story in each of these key disciplines in both the visual and sound. Of course, you never fully give up directing once you have it in your system, and I do still direct some pieces, like music videos. But I prefer to offer this as an added extra to working with me on your team - having an editor who understands the whole process and is as happy rewriting a section of the script or providing notes to a camera team as he is cutting an hour long special makes for an easy life! The same with a DP who can step in to help in a crunch, or direct and shoot 2nd Unit.
This is the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign video created by Chris Layhe and CLAi for the highly innovative company ThoughtFull Toys to drive their Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the "Modarri" line of finger drive toy cars. The miniature vehicles are a totally new approach to the toy car, which are steered and propelled in much the same way as the finger skateboards of the 1980's.
This video was produced by CLAi for the City of San Francisco to be used to reach out to the Spanish speaking communities of the County to introduce a unique crossover concept in education and community, and is a piece that we were very honored to create and be a part of. Kindergarten to College is the first universal and automatic children’s savings program in the United States.
"Punches" is a video production by CLAi for Visage to launch their new service Visage Pulse as corporate social media marketing video. Like all of our pieces for Visage, it uses humor and a degree of quirkiness to make it's points - this time with the addition of small animated iconography. The piece was shot in 6k on the RED Dragon.
As a San Francisco production company, home is anywhere in the Bay area - and we enjoy filming and editing music and dance programs. CLAi were fortunate enough to shoot at the San Jose Ballet for two nights of live performances and 2 dress rehearsals with four RED cameras - moving camera positions between each performance to give 16 REDs. The main edit is a straight recording but this one was fun!
"What you've done, what you've accomplished, should be recognized. These terminal people sometimes have weeks to live, but the idea of a video one the web helping them to fight, to have something to look forward to, to keep going, keep fighting is amazing. I know you have received awards, justifiably so, but to know your work touches terminal cancer patients in this way is the real reward.
This is a music video for supergroup Chickenfoot, which deals with the plight of many people in the USA, and so was shot and edited in a dark documentary style. As the DP on the two camera shoot getting this feel and style was critical, and as the lead editor and lead colorist I was able to develop the in-camera look all the way through post to ensure that the final style matches the intent.
