Request QuoteOlivier Marceny studied photography in Paris before moving to New York to study filmmaking. After graduating, he started his career as a camera assistant to Albert Maysles of documentary duo, the Maysles Brothers. Shortly after, Marceny started directing music videos and photographing music bands for record labels and magazines. In 2003 he moved to Berlin after receiving the Nipkow Grant for fiction film writing. Upon returning to France in 2005, Marceny worked as a director of TV commercials and corporate films while indulging his passion for cinema and photography, taking assignments from international film festivals to shoot photo portraits of filmmakers and actors. Over the past decade Marceny has also been involved as a DoP in documentaries and short films such as Brooklyn02 and Valentine (both selected at Locarno and Venice Film Festivals). In 2014 he was cameraman and editor for the feature documentary Flowers of Taipei, directed by Chinlin Hsieh (Venice Film Festival 2014).

My latest video assignment in Taipei was for Tina Keng Gallery, to shoot an exhibition of Chinese artist Xiaobai Su. They asked me to emulate the visitor's experience in the video. I chose to use a constantly moving camera.

In 1982 a small group of Taiwanese filmmakers reinvented Asian cinema, among them, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Edward Yang. Travelling from Europe to Latin America to Asia, feature documentary Flowers of Taipei sets out to assess the global influence of Taiwan New Cinema. The film was in official selection at Venice International Film Festival 2014.
