Before her shift to film, she worked for ten years as an award-winning journalist, filing dispatches in both her home country and across Africa. Her first short film The Summer Before Seventh Grade (2021) premiered at Dok Leipzig; Landscape (2021) premiered shortly after at FIPADOC in Biarritz and is currently part of the European Film Factory short film programme. Kristen was part of the research team behind Influence, the first South African feature documentary to premiere at Sundance. Most recently, she edited four episodes of the true-crime series Privaatspeurders and worked as an assistant editor on director Simon Wood’s current work-in-progress, Untamed. Kristen has a masters degree in creative documentary directing from the mobile film school DocNomads.
