I am a director and cinematographer from South Africa. Before her shift to film, she worked for ten years as an award-winning journalist, filing dispatches in both her home country and across Africa. In my nearly 15 years in journalism and documentary film, I’ve reported locally for The Star and AFP, covered Africa for Daily Maverick and Al Jazeera, and written long-form features for the Mail & Guardian and African Defence Review. I’ve worked behind the camera since 2015, shooting and editing video pieces for the French news agency AFP, BBC, Buzzfeed, Apple TV, Oxfam and the Swedish national broadcaster. In 2017 I also was part of the research team behind Influence, the first South African feature documentary to premiere at Sundance. I have on-the-ground storytelling experience in communities across southern Africa, as well as Somalia, Syria, the Central African Republic, and South Sudan. I am trained in emergency first aid and hostile environment awareness.
