About

Manlio was born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, currently residing in the island of Roatan in the Bay Islands for nearly 10 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Honduras (UNAH) and later attended Handelshögskolan, the Business School at Gothernburg University in Gothenburg, Sweden were he received a MSC degree in Tourism in Hospitality Management. His aim was to move to Roatan and work in the tourism sector. After a brief stint with a Canadian tour company, Martinez decided to shift his focus more on sustainability by leading a conservation initiative promoting environmental best practices among tourism SMEs in the Bay Islands. As the director of this initiative which was sponsored by the international NGO - the Coral Reef Alliance, he worked in collaboration with the National Geographic Geotourism Map Guides websites where one of his main duties was to produce the marketing content for this project. This included the creation of over 15 videos promoting the initiative. After the experienced gained during this period, he decided to focus solely on video production launching his own production company (Manlio Martinez-Digital Media) focusing primarily on educational projects related to the conservation and protection of the natural environment. He has created multiple videos for the Coral Reef Alliance, the Roatan Marine Park (RMP) and the Bay Islands Conservation Association (BICA) and in 2021 wrote and directed his first short documentary film which has been sent for review to the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Austin Film Festival.
