Passionate storyteller with a talent for delivering attention-grabbing, high-quality news reports and human stories. I want to tell more stories from the inside of Arab communities in the Middle East. My background and language skills open a lot of doors which stay closed for a lot of western journalists. I am fluent in Arabic, Dutch and English. I'm currently working for one of the leading Dutch quality papers called ‘de Volkskrant’. My job is to tell our Dutch readers/viewers about the current situation and the ongoing troubles in the Middle East, framed in a way that it fits the Dutch view. My stories have mainly been exclusive stories about the Syrian conflict, the refugee crisis, the marginalised and minority communities in the Middle East. One of my stories got nominated for 'de Tegel', the most important award for journalism in the Netherlands. This story on human trafficking networks in the Turkish city of Izmir was very important for me to work on. It showed the way traffickers work and gave us insight into the dark-side of these shady networks. I've also published an award-winning story on Syrian refugee child workers in Dutch daily quality newspaper 'de Volkskrant'. The footages I shot and produced were broadcasted by the BBC ten o’clock news. With experience in investigative (video) journalism, my online-media savviness and my passion of telling the stories of the marginalised voices, I am confident I will be an asset to your team and channel.
This is what it’s like when smugglers put migrants on a boat from the Turkish coast to Europe. Children being tossed aboard. Proppers – who are saving for the trip themselves – push everyone on the vessel. One of the migrants has to steer the boat.
In this piece, we describe the network of human traffickers on social media. Thousands of refugees found their smuggler on facebook. In networks, smugglers placed ads like travel agencies. It was shady. Refugees were promised trips on luxury boats, but when they were ready to travel, smugglers forced them to go on small fishing boats with tens sometimes hundreds of other refugees.
This story explains the struggle of those who tried to make the best of their life in war-torn Aleppo. Incredible details on how a photographer tried to show us the other side of war. He became tired of the endless war, and left his beloved city where he once had dreams.
This is the written story on the hidden child labour of Syrian refugees in Turkey. I wrote this piece for Dutch daily newspaper de Volkskrant. This story gives the best insight on Syrian refugee children and their struggle in the region.

I made this story to show what the fate is of those who stayed in the region. We all know that many Syrians fled to Europe, but there is a bigger group who can't afford the trip. I'm still working on this project. I'm following one of these kids to see what he will become. Will he return to Syria to fight, or will he have a better future?
