Nearly 700,000 Bangladeshis were displaced each year by natural disasters. During the rainy season, more than one-fifth of the country can be flooded at once and there is very little escape from gushing waters for the 165 million population. In 2017 monsoon season, the country faced some of the worst flooding in their history. Thousands of homes and rice crops were destroyed, and families were left struggling to afford food. And the situation is expected to get worse in year coming .

The systematic campaign of violence that went on for decades have forced tens of thousands of Rohingya to flee their homes in Myanmar’s Rakhine state. When COVID-19 pandemic hit India 2 years ago, it killed hundreds of thousands of its people. Its healthcare system was collapsing as it struggled to cope with the unprecedented number of infections. The disease also upended lives and led to soaring unemployment. Businesses and economic activities all but ground to a halt. The country also witnessed the world’s biggest lockdown which brought untold misery to the poor. But two years on, with COVID variants still a threat .
Mega dams in China on the Mekong river have affected the flow of water along the river downstream into Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The dams have also affected fish life and the flow of sediments, contributing to the collapse of river banks and the destruction of communities that rely on the water for their livelihood. And now, China is planning to build the world’s biggest dam on what’s known in India as River Brahmaputra which flows through Tibet, Bangladesh and India.
According to the WHO, more than 200,000 tons of medical waste ended up in landfills around the world during the pandemic.
