Step Inside L.A.'s Historic Marionette Theater
Los Angeles’ historic Bob Baker Marionette Theater is one of the longest running puppetry theaters in the United States. It’s home to more than 2,000 handmade marionettes, and gives out free ice cream at its performances. Founded by Bob Baker and Alton Wood in 1963, the theater was designated a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural landmark in 2009, and its creations have been featured in TV shows such as Star Trek and Bewitched, and films such as Bluebeard, A Star is Born and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The theater is planning to move to a new location, but the magic will always live on. Watch the above video for a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the historic old theater. Game Change Game documents a tumultuous, and at times surreal, basketball season plagued by once unimaginable circumstances. Co-directors Maxime Quoilin and Spike Jordan provide unfettered access to the players union: examining the anxieties and hopes of the players through interviews, and even include first person footage from the subjects themselves. Quoilin and Jordan take us from the NBA bubble to the social uprisings of the Black Lives Matter movement, at a time when the personal could no longer be apolitical. Including interviews with CJ McCollum, JaVale McGee, Chris Paul, and many other notable figures, the documentary moves fluidly through the perspectives of the players, to those of artists, activists, and survivors of police brutality. The Turnagain Arm, a long, narrow body of water with one of the largest tidal differentials in the world near Anchorage, Alaska, is known for its bore tides. This rare phenomenon occurs when the tides collide, creating waves that travel not only for miles, but can also reach heights of 10 feet with speeds of 15 miles per hour.
