The Produced Water Problem
The Permian Basin generates an estimated 462 million gallons of produced water per day. It’s extremely salty, polluted oilfield wastewater that comes to the surface with oil and gas production. Mostly injected below the surface, the produced water finds little use above ground. Those deep injections are blamed for earthquakes, causing injectors to find more shallow ground. That’s where surface issues come to play. This project was filmed, written and produced in early 2024.
