David K. Shields has been travelling the world for the past 25 years, the last 20 of which have been devoted to the pursuit of the best image. He is one of New Zealand’s most reknowned contemporary photographers, having worked for many of the top fashion magazines worldwide, including Vogue Homme International (Fr and Jp), Vogue Paris (Fr), Crash (Fr), Dazed and Confused (UK and Australia), Japanese GQ and Commons & Sense (Jp), German GQ and GQ Style, Russian Tatler, Italian Marie Claire, and Black Magazine (NZ). In addition to this his highly inspirational commercial work has kept him in demand across the globe. David has continued to nurture his passion for photography, expressing the artful vision and “eye for the moment” evident in his fashion imagery within an ever-growing body of personal work, particularly in portrait photography which is being further explored within an arts context of late. With a firm belief that the best will be achieved working in conjunction with others, including specialists in related fields, he is enjoying both the challenge and the interaction with friends and colleagues. The results these collaborations can achieve are made obvious by the palpable energy caught within these images. He considers a journey is best shared with others - it gives rise to questions, and better still illumination. “I look for Character and Energy that inspires me, the ability of a subject to show me that spontaneous moment no-one can predict, and to thrive within the freedom of boundaries this lifestyle allows me.”
