His recent films, A Day With My Boy: Slug War (2014), was licensed by PBS and premiered on their Online Film Festival, and Angels (2013) was nominated for a Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival. He has made music videos for Sonny & The Sunsets, Rogue Wave, Ramon & Jessica, Pancho-San and The Bobbyteens. D Tour (2009), his first feature length film as director and producer, has won several awards including the Golden Gate Award for Bay Area Feature Documentary from the San Francisco International Film Festival and the Jury Prize for Best Documentary from the Bend Film Festival. D Tour premiered nationwide on the PBS Emmy award-winning program Independent Lens in November 2009. He is currently working on a second feature film project with underground "budget rock" legends, The Mummies. As a freelance Director, Producer, Videographer and Editor, Jim Granato has worked on projects for The History Channel, The Travel Channel, Court TV, Adobe, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Oakland Museum of California, The Exploratorium and dozens of independent filmmakers and organizations worldwide.

Jim Granato was commissioned to travel to Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park in Utah to make the following video for Villa Albertine San Francisco and Villa Albertine Miami. French visual artist Hicham Berrada and Oakland poet Matthew Zapruder traveled to Bryce Canyon to compose a visual and written tribute to French composer Olivier Messiaen and create a landscape through the history of its metamorphosis.

Combining a band road trip with a personal quest for an organ donor, Pat, must care of his failing kidney. He's part of the organ donor recipient community, a group whose lives become entwined in life and death. On one side are those who are saved through tragedy or by a gift from a living donor; on the other are the families of the donors, who are offered a chance for hope and bittersweet resolution for their loss. D TOUR is filled with unexpected twists and the joys and sorrows of life.

Artist Nick Diphillipo has been designing and casting bells and other objects for over thirty years. He teaches bell making at The Crucible in Oakland, California, as well as other foundry-related subjects.

Jim Granato followed along with François Chaignaud, Sasha J. Blondeau, and Hélène Giannecchini during their San Francisco-based Villa Albertine residency, as they led research on the city's history of engagement in the movement for LGBTQIA+and rights worked on their project, "Cortèges," a hybrid piece that combines voice and dance, orchestra and electronic music, produced with the Orchestre de Paris and Ircam.
In April, 2017, two dozen Iowans walked 85 miles from Indigenous Iowa's Little Creek Camp to Des Moines for the April 29 Climate Justice Rally. They are met by strong opposing views from locals (and fellow neighbors) who received bad misinformation or "fake news" about the group's intentions. This short doc chronicles how two groups on either side of the political divide get caught up in a firestorm of disrespect, sparked by a Confederate flag and an attack video funded by a pipeline company.
