In the first installment of a series of studio portraits commissioned by 1985, filmmaker Ignacio Carballo & I capture the spirit of the Artist in process, documenting the creation of director/choreographer Yara Travieso's "La Medea" at BRIC Arts Media House in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The renowned writer reads from his newest work, the novel "The Up-Down", which heralds the latest (final?) chapter in the Sailor & Lula stories. The excerpted section entitled "Beyond God & the Devil" was released by VICE in November. VICE co-sponsored the event with Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum, a benefit for Black Lodge Theatre Co's upcoming production of Gifford's play "Do the Blind Dream?"
