Growing up in the mountains of Chamonix, he started as an outdoor photographer capturing emotional connections to high alpine environments. His interest in social challenges were sparked by an expedition in Bolivia, where he discovered the social and environmental impacts of mining. Combining technical skills from the field with his curiosity of other people’s way of seeing the world, he seeks to explore conflictual situations related to social transition, giving his audience emotions rather than information, and enabling them to gain empathy to a party they do not necessarily agree with.
It's not a trivial thing to walk on a wire in the air. Especially when it's a kilometer long, linking the adret and ubac sides of a valley. Standing on this highline, you can only see the end when you've almost completed the traverse, when you've only got a hundred meters to go. Before that, you can only guess at the end. You imagine it. You just see the line disappear in front of us, and you walk on, one foot at a time. You think of the end. Or not.
Through its people and culture, this film paints a portrait of Romanian solidarity. One month after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, we set out to meet the individuals responsible for the wave of solidarity in Romania. Against this backdrop, this film paints a portrait of the country. It questions stereotypes, and poses the same questions the filmmakers were asked about solidarity, post-communism, Russian influence, Eastern Europe and fraternity.
In the summer of 2023, En Passant par la Montagne and Emmaüs Chambery led a project to bring the people living at the Emmaüs community to the high summits of the Alps. In the process, they would learn about climate change and discover its direct effects on the environment, as well as surpass themselves both physically and mentally. Going to the mountains would be both an escape from their daily life, as well as a reminder of the impact of small actions on the world.
