Ryan cut his teeth in photography while living in the vibrant and sometimes volatile, Francophone region of Central Africa. He finished university in 2008 and made his home in Rwanda and The Democratic Republic of Congo for the next five years. Covering conflicts and humanitarian crisis', he scoured the continent, eventually spreading into Asia and Latin America, notching over 70 countries and finding a comfort and truth within the world's most desolate, dangerous and beautiful places. His work, both the still and motion image, has been featured in award winning films, international publications, and aired across the US, Europe, and Africa. His most recent project has been working as a Director of Photography for The Last Animals, a documentary about the elephant and rhino poaching crisis within Central Africa and its connections to international terrorism. The Last Animals premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and has since toured the international film festival scene winning multiple awards. Ryan currently lives between Africa, France, and Texas; wherever his wife and daughter are is where home will always be.
