The griot is a phenomenon which characterizes the West African music scene. They are the defenders of West African civilization and professors of ethnomusicology. Noumoucounda Cissoko is one such artist from Senegal. He is a modern griot who combines traditional kora with hip-hop beats. We traveled to Senegal to discover this unique combination of the kora which is a 21-stringed African harp, emblematic of West African Manding culture which was born centuries ago.
