Stevan took care of all the little requirements and delivered the footage. Excellent at project-related communication that makes things more clear in advance.

Request QuoteSteven Gute is a filmmaker who has worn many hats in his now 20-year career. Gute works as a director, producer, writer, cinematographer, journalist and editor, and already has a long resume of credits stretching across a multitude of formats. While his origins lay in narrative films, he eventually worked on a number of documentary films, including: Leonardo Di Caprio's 11th Hour; followed by Radicalized, a portrait of millennial resistance during the Occupy movement; ongoing front-line documentation of protests at Standing Rock and Black Lives Matter; and ultimately, leading a team to the Arctic to film glaciers in decline for HBO’s Ice on Fire. He has worked as a journalist for institutions like The Young Turks and Red Canary Collective. His current series about water (Confluence) has taken him to 48 states thus far. Steven is a one man studio and hopes to continue to shine light on the truth.

Steve was very flexible and made the shoot work. Had a lot of common friends with the interview subjects so helped to create a very friendly environment.
Confluence is a long term project investigating America’s water systems and downstream consequences of industry, agriculture, etc. What started out as a feature film about the Missouri River has developed into a long form series covering dams, fracking, pipeline protests, indigenous resistance, flint Michigan, and more. It has been in the works for a near decade, in that time I have traveled to 48 states. Confluence also has been releasing short form content and live streaming, using water as a reflective lens to investigate everything it touches.
Helped Produced & shoot this VOA piece about the solar industry and tariffs
The Longest Straw is a feature length documentary about water systems in Los Angeles and one woman’s adventure walking the entire length of the LA Aqueduct to discover the source of where her water comes from. I helped shoot the movie and was the Associate Producer.
Produced by Leonardo DiCaprio for HBO, Ice on Fire is a documentary I worked on as a 2nd Unit Director, cinematographer, drone operator, and production coordinator. Highlight was leading a team in the Arctic filming glaciers in decline and attempting to not die in sub zero temperatures.
Radicalized is a film about political resistance in Los Angeles during the Occupy movement. I produced, edited, co-shot, and many more responsibilities over the course of years. I also was the post producer supervisor and even scored some music for the film. Radicalized premiered at the Downtown LA Film Festival and was distributed by Indie Rights.
