Under Pressure
At least 600,000 people in Europe have multiple sclerosis (MS). More than one million people are affected through their roles as caretakers or family members. MS changes people’s lives. Beyond the physical effects, which range from mild symptoms to major disabilities, there are larger implications. For instance, half of the people with MS leave their jobs three years after diagnosis. MS can occur at any time in life, but affects people most frequently between the ages of 20 and 40. After traffic accidents, MS is the greatest cause of disability in young people. More women than men are affected by a ratio of 3:2. There still is no cure for MS.
