Originally from the Midwest, I currently live in Portland, Oregon with my wife, Melissa, and our two dogs and cat. I received my MFA in Film and Television Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and a BA in Film Studies from the University of Michigan. My film and video work has appeared in film festivals and been featured online at PBS, NPR, Comedy Central, Bust, Interview Magazine, GQ, the White House blog, Nylon, The Huffington Post, Jezebel and Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In blog. My photography has been featured online at National Geographic, Slate, Interview Magazine and Civil Eats and in print in National Geographic's hardcover book Feeding America: Stories of Hunger and Hope, Growing Oregon magazine, Venus Magazine, and various newspapers. Other previous film/video related experience includes casting assistant/extras casting for the Oscar-nominated film Nebraska, production assistant on music videos for Outkast and Beck, and assistant to screenwriter/producer Kirsten (Kiwi) Smith (Legally Blonde, 10 Things I Hate About You). I'm currently directing a documentary on the Rose City Riveters, the supporters group for the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League. Manuel Y. is a third generation fisherman on the island of San Cristóbal in the Galapagos. He uses WhatsApp to share his catches with buyers in real time. Manuel works with Frescapesca, a company that allows him and other fishers to sell directly to restaurants. WhatsApp and Frescapesca make fishing more profitable and provide verified video and GPS traceability of food from boat to plate. These sustainable, safe fishing practices help the vibrant ecosystem and wildlife of the Galapagos continue to thrive.
