In 2009, the Puntland Supreme Court, with the support of UNDP, set up four mobile courts in order to bring justice to the rural areas of Somaliland. To travel this large country in the Horn of Africa. The courts consist of a judge, prosecutor, chief registrar and paralegal lawyer and the mobile courts adjudicate primarily civil and family cases, but also criminal cases.

This was linked to the first Human Development Report out of the whole of Somalia (all 3 regions) in more than a decade. I was commissioned to film and photograph a number of projects and locations as a one-man-band operation, field producing along with, and supported by, UNDP's personnel, expertees and infrastructure. I shot with dual Canon DSLR's and was mostly happy with the results.

At this camp is in southern Somalia, women receive their weekly supply of charcoal so they can cook. Water is scarce in an area that has been ravaged by war for the past twenty years. Somalia's current government is receiving support from the international aid community to respond to the crisis, but the challenges are grave. With the help of UNDP in particular, the Horn of Africa has a future.

In a country often referred to as the murder and rape capital of the world, one group of people are especially at risk. And despite some of the most progressive laws in the world to protect them, they are increasingly the targets of a particularly heinous crime. We travel to South Africa to meet a young survivor, whose courage is inspiring.

Working solo I caught 23 flights for this assignment in less than 21 days. I travelled to 9 countries filming projects in 5 of those. Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone. An extremely tight deadline with no room for error. Neither with the travels nor with the shoot. Mission accomplished.
