He graduated in Journalism at Complutense University of Madrid in 2015; and obtained the MA in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at the University of the Arts London in 2017. In 2022 he was recognized with the Dawn Journalism Award (Premio Amanecer de Periodismo 2022) for his long-term photo essay about rural depopulation and resilience in Spain. Alvarez’s work has been published in international media outlets such as The Washington Post, GEO Magazine, El País, ElDiario.es, and Público among others; as well as exhibited in England, France and Spain. He has also worked on commercial assignments for clients such as LG Electronics, Iberia and Warner Music Spain. Photo essay about the last stage of the refugee British route. It covers the attempt of refugees to cross the last border, between France and United Kingdom. The essay was divided into three chapters, each one focused on one part of the trip: The living conditions in the refugee camp of Calais; the attempts to cross the border at night; and the new home of refugees once they got to cross to United Kingdom. The project was shortlisted for the PhotOn Festival Award 2016 and the Prix ANI 2017; and it got an honorable mention of the Fujifilm Award 2016. The project was also exhibited in galleries of London (United Kingdom) and Perpignan (France). El País — February 22, 2017.
Navalquejigo is a small town in the north of Madrid, with a population of between twenty and thirty people, rebuilt on the ruins of an ancient medieval village. The town was founded in the 11th century by groups of villagers from the city of Segovia, located on the plains of the ancient Realm of Castile, however the first settlements in the region date from the 3rd century b.C. Nowadays, it is an occupied land.
