More than 2,000 youth from the Great Lakes region gathering for a peace festival in Bukavu in South Kivu province in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The festival aims to promote peace and cohesion among the youth of this region.

This report was commissioned by VOA News. I filmed, edited and scripted it on my own. I highlighted the problem of a wave of pollution, especially plastic garbage that plagues some of the streets of the capital city Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kingabwa's main and famous street is the worst affected and the environment is said to be deplorable, but the government has said it has already started projects to collect and dispose of waste in the city.

I did a descriptive story on One of the most influential genres of African music and dance, Congolese rumba, which now has Unesco-protected status. It is the culmination of campaigning by two countries - the Democratic Republic of Congo and Congo-Brazzaville. They both occupy what was once the ancient kingdom of Kongo - where the sinuous dance originated according to the two nations' joint application. The word "rumba" itself comes from the Kikongo word for navel, "Nkumba".

Central African musicians gathered recently for three days in the capital of the DRC as part of a rumba festival. The event, which opened last Friday and ended on Monday, gave pride of place to the sharing of experiences between young artists and their elders practicing this musical genre. I filmed, scripted and edited this video alone.
