The Kano State Government had on November 30, 2022, prohibited tricycle drivers from operating on some key routes in Kano Metropolis. The Kano Road Traffic Agency’s (KAROTA) Public Relations Officer, Nabilusi Na’isa, released a statement on Tuesday that included the prohibition. The government stated that it took the measure after supplying 50 taxis and 100 modern buses to transport passengers on highways that are off-limits to tricycle operators. However, some merchants and students have refuted the government’s claim that there are enough buses as promised on the state’s roadways. Security personnel could be spotted on the affected roads to ensure compliance. In some of the highways, there have been reports of conflicts between the security and tricycle riders.
