Axel Mitbauer, the East German Swimmer_#keepfreedomunlocked
Risearcher and cinematographer of short doc commissioned by Zinc and supported by the Democracy Council, this is the first episode of the campaign #keepfreedomunlocked. As part of the East German national swim team, Axel was frustrated that his sporting achievements were used to improve the reputation of the state. After being interrogated and tortured by the Stasi, he decided to flee to West Germany across the Baltic Sea - swimming for 22km by night.
