Biography
Ferdinandh Ballentes Cabrera is a freelance multimedia journalist based in Southern Philippines.
He was born in Parang, Maguindanao in September 11, 1981 to parents Ernesto and Celisa.
He is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Development Communication at the University of Southern Mindanao.
He started his career in journalism in 2004 when he joined ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation Cotabato as regional TV reporter.
In 2007, he joined network GMA network as stringer assigned in Central Mindanao but by this time he was starting his career as multimedia journalist covering stories for print, TV, online and photo agencies.
He can work alone, edit videos and produce stories connecting with various sources from military, government, rebels, NGO’s and sometimes from terror groups itself.
Covering Mindanao at young he was exposed in countless frontline war reportage, bombings, indigenous people’s concern, mass displacement of people, natural disasters, human rights violations, environmental and indigenous concerns, insurgencies, terrorism other major social issues.
The latest he covered was the five months battle in Marawi from week one to the last week.
In 2011, he was chosen as one of the fellows of Asean Center for Journalism for Journalism at the Ateneo De Manila for diploma in multimedia journalism.
Aside from active stringer for GMA Network and also Mindanews correspondent, he is also a Mindanao stringer for wires, Agence France Presse.
Mr. Cabrera used to contribute stories also for Rappler, , Vera Files, Philippine Daily Inquirer, European News Agency, Al Jazeera, HBO’s Vice News and among others.
