The homeless population surges in the west, particularly in the heart of Los Angeles’s infamous Skid Row. Natasha Sweatte and her photographer met a man helping people get off the streets. They learned that same man actually lost his leg because the issue of homelessness wasn't just affecting those without a home.
One day before President Donald Trump declared a national emergency on the country’s opioid epidemic, Natasha and her photographer traveled to a small town just outside of Boston to see the horrific epidemic at its worst. Needles were washing up on shores near homeless encampments and also in places you’d least expect.
Nearly one month after the worst wildfire season in California’s history, mudslides plagued Los Angeles and Santa Barbara Counties, devastating the affluent community of Montecito. Officials reported 21 deaths, businesses were closed, and more than 100 homes were destroyed. Natasha Sweatte and her photographer were heartbroken as they visited families in distress.
Scientists are concerned of health issues the Salton Sea could bring to southern California if it dries up. Activists say the Supreme Court's ruling which took effect in December of 2017 could have a tremendous impact. Natasha Sweatte and her photographer traveled to the Salton Sea to find out for themselves.
