About

I am an independent journalist based in Amman, Jordan. My work focuses on refugees, religion, China and the Middle East, and has been published in The Guardian, The Atlantic, BBC News, Foreign Policy, VICE News, WIRED and Al Jazeera America, among other outlets. I’ve reported from Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, China, the United States, Israel and Palestine. I won the 2014 Elizabeth Neuffer Memorial Prize (gold) from the United Nations Correspondents Association for my latest project, which focused on refugee survival in Jordan and Lebanon under support from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting. I call Shanghai home, but have also lived in Hong Kong, Taiwan and California. I graduated from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. I’ve also studied Arabic and Middle Eastern politics in Oxford, Morocco and Oman, and worked with refugees in Jordan through Jesuit Refugee Service and ARDD-Legal Aid.
