Soraya Auer is a freelance multimedia journalist based in New York City, who has reported in Europe, the U.S. and South Asia. She is a confident self-shooting producer and editor, with experience using Canon C100s, DLSRs, equipment like track sliders and shoulder mounts, and editing using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Her video work has been published by the BBC, Architectural Record, Plus Model Magazine and others. Her short documentary Relevé, about a black male ballet dancer's journey from Chicago's projects to an elite NYC dance school, recently won an Audience Choice Award at a short film festival in New York. Her range of video experience - from filming rugby games to jails and juvenile offenders to exotic animals - has made her into a versatile shooter.
She is a recent graduate of Columbia University School of Journalism's documentary program, where she focused on digital reporting and video production. She speaks French, German and Bengali and has an expertise in South Asia.
