You may not be familiar with the name Kam Mak, but you've probably seen his work. In 2008, the Chinese-American artist was selected by the U.S. Postal Service to create an annual stamp through 2019 for its Celebrating Lunar New Year series. The Year of the Dog stamp is his latest, and Mak says it highlights some of the holiday's customs and traditions that have endured throughout time.
“Soundtracking ‘The Descendents’ With ‘Real’ Hawaiian Music” is an intriguing story about the first Hollywood movie scored with real Hawaiian music. It illuminates the contributions of Gabby Pahinui and other Hawaiian artists and why it was important for director Alexander Payne to include their music in the film. The NPR story won a national award from the Asian American Journalists Association.
